About the society

A young society with a long memory.

The Rabha Literary Society was founded on 10 April 2024 at PDUAM Amjonga, but the work it carries is centuries older — a continuous lineage of Rabha song, story, weave and ritual along the lower Brahmaputra valley.

Our Story

Founded in a classroom, rooted in a community.

The society began as a circle of Rabha students at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya, Amjonga, who recognised that the language and stories of their grandparents were quietly disappearing from everyday life — and that the university itself was an unusually generous place to do something about it.

From the first reading evenings in 2024, the society has grown into a small but determined ensemble of writers, folklorists, weavers, teachers and elders, all working under one shared principle: that preservation only matters when it makes the future possible.
